Answer 2

As outlined in the chapter, a booking pace is the measurement of how many bookings have been received progressively up to arrival date (or departure date for airlines). Booking pace is reviewed to identify, for example, how many bookings we have received as of today for the first Monday next month, as compared to our position same time last year for the same Monday. In addition to reviewing pace for performance evaluation, revenue managers control booking pace to help achieve their revenue goals. For example, in a growing market with sufficient last-minute business travel demand, booking pace is being controlled in a way that more inventory is kept available at the last minute in order to capture more higher-rated revenue opportunities.
