Answer to Question 1

1. Self-enhancement efforts are intended to increase one's appeal to others. This might be done through describing one's positive traits, past success, and achievement, or explaining how one has overcome daunting obstacles. The focus of this tactic is to make the self socially desirable.
2. Other-enhancement efforts are intended to make others feel good about themselves. This might be done through compliments or flattery, an interest in the person, doing a small favor, seeking feedback or advice from the other, or expressing liking via nonverbal behavior (e.g., nodding, smiling).

Answer to Question 2

In order to survive, our ancient ancestors were small in number, so it was crucial that they reproduce successfully. Some suggest that reproductive success would be more likely if heterosexual pairs were erotically attracted to one another, and if they were willing to invest time and effort in feeding and protecting any offspring they produce. These two basic features of lovedesire and commitmentgrew out of conditions that made love an important adaptation for our species.

Every flu season is different, and even healthy people can get extremely sick from the flu, as well as spread it to others. The flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May. Every person over six months of age should get an annual flu vaccine. The vaccine cannot cause you to get influenza, but in some seasons, may not be completely able to prevent you from acquiring influenza due to changes in causative viruses. The viruses in the flu shot are killed—there is no way they can give you the flu. Minor side effects include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given. It is possible to develop a slight fever, and body aches, but these are simply signs that the body is responding to the vaccine and making itself ready to fight off the influenza virus should you come in contact with it.
