Answer to Question 1

Positive responses should recognize that intimate relationships are important for the
elderly person in terms of their emotional well-being. Negative responses may
include feelings of anger or betrayal or a failure to value the importance of late-adult
relationships. Stereotypes that may be explored include the view that children and
grandchildren can fulfill all the affiliation needs an older person might have and also
a mistrust of decisions made by older people.

Answer to Question 2

Answers will vary, but students should demonstrate an understanding of their
chosen theory.
