Answer to Question 1

Students' answers should reflect a good understanding of the impact that parents,
grandparents, and teachers (as well as others) can have on a child's development.
Caring, attention, and keeping in mind the child's best interest should be foremost in
students' responses. The answers may be on a one-to-one level or they may reflect
changes that could be made within the community.

Answer to Question 2

The shared environment includes those individuals living in the same household
such as siblings who are reared together. The nonshared environmental influence on
siblings does include different friends and different teachers. Research has indicated
that the nonshared environment exerts more influence on siblings than does the
shared environment. This is because children living in the same home do not
necessarily experience the same environment. Parents contribute to influencing the
nonshared environment by interacting with siblings differently, since each child is
unique.
