Answer to Question 1

The answer should begin with a description of a resilient child that is based on
research cited in the chapter. Suggestions for helping children become more
invulnerable should include development of competencies, social support structures,
and religious factors.

Answer to Question 2

Support groups for single parents provide emotional support and practical advice
through contact with others in the same situation. A grandparent or other relative
might help with child care and perhaps contribute financial support, while the child's
teachers and school counselors can help with school-related problems and with the
child's general adjustment. Friends and neighbors might volunteer to baby-sit, do the
shopping, or help out with other errands.
