Answer to Question 1

Answers will vary. Reasons for signing up may include higher self-esteem, better
health, less obesity, and appreciation of cooperation and respect for teammates
among the reasons for signing the permission slip; reasons for declining may
include injuries, deflation of fragile egos, increased stress, time taken away from
academics, and unequal opportunity.

Answer to Question 2

The hygiene hypothesis states that children are overprotected from dirt and bacteria
and that some infections and childhood diseases that could strengthen their immune
systems rarely occur. Citations of dangers will vary but could include superinfections,
a weakened or compromised immune system, or a general inability to cope with illness.
