Answer to Question 1

There are many possible answers here. Among the possibilities are the opportunity to
reflect on the material and show retention of the material, the use of a writing
instrument, application of fine motor skills, and the ability to read and to write. Students
need to explain enough about their affordances to demonstrate that they understand
the concept.

Answer to Question 2

Some cultures use more nouns in their languages while others may use more verbs.
English is more noun-laden than Chinese or Korean, which uses more verbs. Learning
names of objects is deemed important in North American culture while human
interactions are emphasized in East Asian cultures.
