Answer to Question 1

Answers should show an understanding of the extent of infant undernutrition and its
consequences. The answer should be innovative, yet realistic. Administration,
funding, and clientele should all be addressed.

Answer to Question 2

The advantages of breast-feeding include the release of hormones that reduce pain,
encourage attachment, regulate various internal organs, determine the timing of
sexual maturation, and provide immunities. Also, breast milk is more digestible and
contains more vitamins and minerals than cow's milk. Further, breast-fed babies
have fewer allergies and stomachaches. The disadvantages of breast feeding
include the potential to transmit teratogens that the mother might ingest, the family's
inability to participate with the mother in the feeding, and the lack of convenience of
feeding on demand, especially in a society that is not entirely comfortable with
breast-feeding in public.

Every flu season is different, and even healthy people can get extremely sick from the flu, as well as spread it to others. The flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May. Every person over six months of age should get an annual flu vaccine. The vaccine cannot cause you to get influenza, but in some seasons, may not be completely able to prevent you from acquiring influenza due to changes in causative viruses. The viruses in the flu shot are killed—there is no way they can give you the flu. Minor side effects include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given. It is possible to develop a slight fever, and body aches, but these are simply signs that the body is responding to the vaccine and making itself ready to fight off the influenza virus should you come in contact with it.

People with alcoholism are at a much greater risk of malnutrition than are other people and usually exhibit low levels of most vitamins (especially folic acid). This is because alcohol often takes the place of 50% of their daily intake of calories, with little nutritional value contained in it.

For about 100 years, scientists thought that peptic ulcers were caused by stress, spicy food, and alcohol. Later, researchers added stomach acid to the list of causes and began treating ulcers with antacids.
