Answer to Question 1

Reflexes are unlearned actions that are involuntary responses to particular stimuli.
Those that are necessary for survival are ones that maintain oxygen supply
(breathing reflex), maintain constant body temperature, and those that manage
feedings (such as the sucking and rooting reflexes).

Answer to Question 2

In the mid 1960s approximately 8.2 percent of babies born in the U.S. were born at
low birthweight. This percentage declined steadily and was at its lowest in the early
1980s, when it was around 6.6 percent. Since then, the rate of low-birthweight births
has been steadily increasing. There are many possible reasons for this increase,
including lack of access to adequate prenatal care, poor social support, and increased rates of drug use, both legal and illegal.

There are major differences in the metabolism of morphine and the illegal drug heroin. Morphine mostly produces its CNS effects through m-receptors, and at k- and d-receptors. Heroin has a slight affinity for opiate receptors. Most of its actions are due to metabolism to active metabolites (6-acetylmorphine, morphine, and morphine-6-glucuronide).
