Answer to Question 1

Answers should include the severity of the risk, the likelihood of the risk, whether
prenatal diagnosis is possible, whether the condition is treatable at birth, and
whether the couple would consider abortion.

Answer to Question 2

Genetic counseling is recommended for individuals who have a parent, child, or
sibling with a serious genetic condition; are women age 35 or above; or are men age
40 or above. It is recommended for couples who have a history of spontaneous
abortion, stillbirths, or infertility or who are from the same ethnic group or subgroup.
