Answer to Question 1

Most answers will note that increased testing and counseling will reduce the
occurrence of defects, because parents will usually choose either not to risk
pregnancy or to terminate an affected pregnancy. Testing will also result in a greater
ability to treat problems early, even in utero, resulting in fewer affected individuals.
However, it should be noted that prenatal testing and genetic counseling are not
flawless.

Answer to Question 2

There are more recessive abnormal genes (not necessarily known disorders) than
dominant abnormal genes, because dominant disorders are generally not passed
down as recessive genes are. This is because most dominant disorders are severely
disabling and lead the affected individual to not reproduce.
