Answer to Question 1

Students should note that testing will allow these parents to prepare for the birth of a
child with special needs, or, if the child has an abnormality that can be treated early
in development, to be prepared for that. Some students may note that intrauterine
treatment may be a possibility with some disabilities.

Answer to Question 2

Answers will vary, but may include two of the following: (1) there are vast similarities
among animals of different species; (2) the number of human genes is smaller than
what had been thought; (3) the more closely related the organisms, the more genes
they share; (4) we can use other animals to examine human diseases and
treatments.
