Answer to Question 1

Despite society's continuing condemnation of masturbation, it is still the primary outlet for adolescent sexual tension. But sexuality is more complicated than decisions about whether or not to masturbate. Sexuality involves answers to the five w questions: (1) when? (2) what? (3) who? (4) where? and (5) why? These questions bring up issues of sexual orientation, type and timing of sexual activity, how (e.g., use of contraceptives), and gender and ethnic differences in sexual activity. Adolescents engage in sexual activity primarily due to peer pressure.
