Adolescents are more likely than younger children to engage in risky behavior, such as excessive drinking, substance abuse, reckless driving, violence, eating disordered behavior, and unprotected sexual activity. Death rates are nearly twice as great for male adolescents as for female adolescents. The reason is that boys are more likely to take risks that end in death by accident, suicide, or homicide.
