Answer to Question 1

16 and 25 percent

Answer to Question 2

In a study conducted by Anthony DeCapser and William Fifer (1980), women read the Dr. Seuss book The Cat in the Hat out loud twice daily during the final month and a half of pregnancy. After birth, the babies of the mothers were given special pacifiers. Sucking on these pacifiers in one way would activate recordings of their mothers reading The Cat in the Hat. Sucking on them in another way would activate their mothers' readings of a book which was written in very different rhythms. The newborns chose to hear The Cat in the Hat.
