This distress detracts from a parent's ability to devote attention to children and may shorten patience, leading to more coercive, authoritarian parenting. Additionally, parents who are in lower SES jobs that are more working class are likely to view an important work skill as obedience and pleasing the boss.. Upper-class parents may be in managerial jobs that value creativity and decision-making skills.
