Answer to Question 1

Sports have the potential to result in both positive and negative outcomes for children. On the negative side, some research indicates that children who engage in these activities have a greater tendency to develop delinquent or antisocial behaviors. On the other hand, the benefits include exercise and health, improvement of motor skills, enhanced self-esteem, learning of initiative, social skills and teamwork, and the development of cognitive skills.
The type of outcome often depends on the types of adults (coaches and managers) who guide the children, and the emphasis they place on winning versus learning to work together and have fun.

Answer to Question 2

True

People who have myopia, or nearsightedness, are not able to see objects at a distance but only up close. It occurs when the cornea is either curved too steeply, the eye is too long, or both. This condition is progressive and worsens with time. More than 100 million people in the United States are nearsighted, but only 20% of those are born with the condition. Diet, eye exercise, drug therapy, and corrective lenses can all help manage nearsightedness.
