Answer to Question 1

Graphic design can reveal information by organizing facts or data in a visually coherent way. Graffiti Archaeology takes isolated factsin this case individual photographs of graffiti sitesand sets them in a structure that reveals the information they contain. A timeline of the graphic images is available and the viewer is able to move backward in time to reveal layers of hidden images. This website makes visible the evolution of graffiti sites over time as graffiti writers paint on top of each other's work.

Answer to Question 2

Whereas Warhol painted portraits of graphic design, Barbara Kruger appropriated its methods. As an experienced graphic designer for magazines, she became an expert in the power of the combination of words and images to influence a reader. Juxtaposing text and images in her photograph, Kruger uses the familiar look of graphic design to convey unexpected and unsettling messages.
