Tense indicates time in which an action occurs or occurred; it can be either simple or compound.

Simple tenses: (1)Present-- tells what is happening now, (2)Past--tells what has already happened, (3)Future--tells what is yet to happen.

Compound tenses: (1)Present perfect--tells of past action that extends to the present, (2)Past perfect--tells of past action that was finished before another past action, (3)Future perfect--tells of action that will be finished before a future time.
