Inheritance of certain HLA antigen types predisposes to specific diseases such as HLA-B27 and spondyloarthropthie s. Although this type is found in only 4 of the population, it is present in 90 of those affected with spondyloarthropathy, indicating an increased propensity to develop the disease.
