Answer to Question 1

Acute pancreatitis occurs when blockage of the pancreatic duct and continuous secretion of pancreatic juice eventually cause pancreatic ducts to rupture, allowing the pancreatic juice to escape into the substance of the pancreas. The pancreas destroys the acinar and islet tissues and blood vessels, resulting in inflammation and hemorrhage.
Chronic pancreatitis is secondary from repeated bouts of mild acute pancreatitis. The repeated inflammation and destruction leads to scar formation, impairing the function of the pancreas.
