Hemochromatosis is characterized by an iron overload in the body. As there are no excretory pathways for iron, excess iron is not easily excreted. It accumulates in tissues and organs leading to organ damage and scarring and permanent derangement of function. Signs and symptoms include: tan to brown skin, diabetes, cirrhosis, and heart failure
