Chronic lymphocytic leukemia is the most common leukemia in the population older than 70 years of age, although acute myeloid leukemia and chronic myelogenous leukemia do show increased age-related incidence. Essential thrombocytosis is rare. Chronic myelogenous leukemia is seen more often in the middle aged, and acute lymphocytic leukemia most commonly occurs in children.
