Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
Normally most of the stored iron is in the ferritin or soluble form. However, when iron stores increase, so does the proportion of hemosiderin to ferritin.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
Transferrin binds to receptors on the cell membrane, which are called transferrin receptors. Transferrin has two binding sites for ferric (trivalent) iron; it does not bind ferrous iron. It is synthesized in the liver and is normally about one third saturated.
