Methemoglobin contains iron in the ferric form. This is nonfunctional hemoglobin (i.e., it cannot bind and carry oxygen).

ANS: C
When the oxygen dissociation curve shifts to the left, it will load oxygen more easily in the lungs but also will hold onto it more tightly in tissue, thus delivering less oxygen to tissue. This is an example of high oxygen affinity.
