Answer to Question 1

Answer:
a. BT: Bleeding time assesses primary hemostasis, so prolonged anticoagulant therapy should not affect the BT.
b. PT: If the patient is taking Coumadin, the PT time will be prolonged.
c. APTT: If the patient is on heparin or Coumadin, the APTT will be prolonged.
d. TT: Heparin will almost certainly cause a prolonged TT.

Answer to Question 2

Answer:
von Willebrand's disease: PT, APTT, BT, VWF:Ag, VWF activity (RIPA), platelet count, factor VIII, and VWF multimer analysis
Hemophilia A: PT, APTT, and factor VIII
Factor VIII inhibitor: factor VIII activity, Bethesda titer, and mixing study
Bernard-Soulier syndrome: BT, platelet aggregation studies, and platelet count
TTP: bleeding time, platelet aggregation studies, and platelet count

There are major differences in the metabolism of morphine and the illegal drug heroin. Morphine mostly produces its CNS effects through m-receptors, and at k- and d-receptors. Heroin has a slight affinity for opiate receptors. Most of its actions are due to metabolism to active metabolites (6-acetylmorphine, morphine, and morphine-6-glucuronide).
