Answer to Question 1

Answer: Hemosiderin is an amalgam of iron, proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates. Ferritin is composed of polypeptides arranged in a spherical shell. Iron atoms are stored in the shell.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Lead passes to the bone marrow where it accumulates in the mitochondria of erythroblasts and inhibits the enzymes involved in heme synthesis. RNA aggregates and mitochondria degenerates, forming basophilic stippling. Some aggregates contain free ionized iron. The enzymes most sensitive to lead are ALA-D and ferrocheletase.
