The major divisions are the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system. The central nervous includes the brain and spinal cord, and it controls the peripheral nervous system and integrates information from the two divisions. The peripheral nervous system contains the cranial nerves, spinal nerves, and sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves. The sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves are also called the autonomic nervous system.
