Answer to Question 1

A
Diabetic ketoacidosis results when the body attempts to metabolize protein and fats, which re-sults in high BUN readings. The CO2 should be normal or low depending on the effectiveness of Kussmaul respirations. The arterial pH will be low, and there will be high glucose, which the di-abetic patient cannot use.

Answer to Question 2

C
Any fracture, even a compound one, should be immobilized in position to avoid further injury to the soft tissue attached to the bones. Any other initial action may cause further injury.
