A nutritionally adequate diet will also help prevent the onset of chronic disease. A nutritionally adequate diet is not low in carbohydrates and proteins.

Alpha cells produce and secrete glucagon. Beta cells produce and secrete insulin. Delta and F cells are responsible for somatostatin and pancreatic polypeptide, respectively.
