Avoiding tight clothing, implementing personal hygiene practices, and avoiding feminine hygiene products should be included when teaching this patient. Saving unused prescription medication is never recommended. Patients should be taught to complete the entire course of medication therapy.

The diaphragm protects against cervical gonorrhea, chlamydia, and trichomoniasis, but not HIV. There is no evidence that the diaphragm protects against HPV.
