Answer to Question 1

Answer: 1

1. An insufficient blood flow to the periphery can cause coldness and inability to feel pain. The problem can have many causes, one of which is a decrease of cardiac output because of some form of damage to the heart or the electrical conduction system of the heart.
2. A poor nutritional profile will not affect cardiac output unless the client's nutritional status is very severe. This client has heart muscle damage.
3. Fluid volume excess will cause edema of the lower extremities along with an attempt by the heart to pump more fluid out of the heart.
4. Damage to the pancreas does not affect cardiac output.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: 4

1. The dark-skinned client's normal skin would be described as rosy brown.
2. Light-skinned clients with respiratory distress are described as cyanotic.
3. Pale is not easily seen in darker-skinned clients.
4. Darker-skinned clients might be described as ashen when having difficulty with oxygenation.

This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
