Answer to Question 1

Answer: 2; 4

1. The wax in a client's ears is not a waste product of the body.
2. The lungs function to help remove carbon dioxide from the body.
3. The heart and vascular system transport wastes, but, are not responsible for the elimination of waste.
4. The kidneys regulate the release of wastes in the urine.
5. Normal skin does not release waste from the body.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: 2

1. The pressures in the heart are controlled by many things, such as the condition of the lungs and systemic blood pressure, or resistance. The heart valves do not control pressure in the heart; although malfunctioning valves can affect the pressures that are not their functions.
2. Once the blood from the body is ejected from the right atrium into the left ventricle, the tricuspid valve closes to prevent the backflow of blood into the right atrium.
3. The mitral valve prevents the backflow of blood into the left ventricle from the left atrium.
4. The function of the valves does not include preventing clots from entering the lungs.
