Answer to Question 1

Answer: 3

1. Hospice does not have an institution.
2. Hospice will treat the client in any setting.
3. The client is treated by hospice in any setting.
4. Hospice will see clients in long-term care facilities or wherever the client is.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: 3

1. DNR orders refer to resuscitation efforts by using CPR, medications, and mechanical support. The nurse would not allow the client to die, because choking from secretions is not what the DNR order is referring to. The client is kept comfortable and afforded a dignified death.
2. The charge nurse would be notified if the nurse could not clear the airway.
3. Dying from choking on secretions would not be part of a DNR order. The nurse ensures the client's comfort and focuses on meeting needs, one of which is an open airway.
4. The nurse who leaves the room at this time is abandoning the client.
