Answer to Question 1

Answer: B

Preoperative care of a baby having surgery to correct a congenital heart defect should include prevention from infection with good hand washing. There are precautions that the parents should take to ensure the child is in optimal health prior to the surgery. Fluids are not to be restricted but encouraged. Immunizations should be continued.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: A

Intravenous indomethacin often stimulates the closure of the PDA in premature infants. The infant will most likely not be prescribed an NSAID or an antidepressant. The infant would be prescribed insulin if diabetes were diagnosed.
