Client education should include monitoring the condition of lips and tongue daily and providing frequent oral hygiene with a soft-bristle toothbrush or sponge. The client should not use an alcohol-based mouthwash, as this would worsen the glossitis. The client should use a petroleum-based lubricating jelly or ointment to the lips after oral care.
