Answer to Question 1

Synergism is when two hormones work in conjunction with one another to accomplish an enhanced effect. An example is T3 and T4 from the thyroid gland that both work together to increase body metabolism. Antagonism is when two hormones exert an opposite effect. An example is calcitonin from the thyroid gland and parathyroid hormone from the parathyroid gland. Calcitonin moves calcium from the blood into the bones; parathyroid hormone moves calcium from the bones into the blood.

Although the Roman numeral for the number 4 has always been taught to have been "IV," according to historians, the ancient Romans probably used "IIII" most of the time. This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV. Early clockmakers apparently thought that the IIII balanced out the VIII (used for the number 8) on the clock face and that it just looked better.
