Answer to Question 1

Blood travels through the pulmonary valve, pulmonary arteries, and arterioles, to the capillaries in the lungs. In a capillary beside an alveolus, the blood releases carbon dioxide, picks up oxygen, and becomes bright red. The blood then travels through the pulmonary veins to the left atrium of the heart.
