Atoms and molecules are the simplest nonliving particles that combine to form proteins, fats, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids. Cells are the smallest living unit. Similar cells with a common goal combine to become tissues. Tissues combine to form organs that perform a general function. Organs that share a common goal are known as organ systems. All of the eleven organ systems join to form the complete human body, or the organism.
