Describe the blood flow through the heart. Start from where the blood enters at the right atrium to where it leaves the heart.

Answer to Question 1

Blood enters from the superior and inferior vena cavae and flows into the right atrium. It flows through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle, which pumps it through the pulmonary semilunar valve into the left and right pulmonary arteries, which carry it to the lungs. From the lungs, the blood flows through the pulmonary veins, which carry the blood to the left atrium. The blood then flows through the mitral valve into the left ventricle, which pumps the blood out through the aortic valve and into the aorta.
