Answer to Question 1

A strain is a pulling or tearing of a muscle. A severe strain can cause the muscle to tear away from the bone at the point of attachment. An avulsion is a separation or tearing away. A fibular avulsion occurs when a portion of the fibula separates from the main body of the bone and remains attached to the strained (torn) muscle.

Answer to Question 2

A watershed blood supply is an area at the extreme distal end of an arterial branch. These areas typically have decreased perfusion. The decreased supply of oxygen and nutrients can hinder the healing process.
