Answer to Question 1

Normal flora is made up of many genus and species of bacteria. These bacteria help digest food, manufacture vitamins, protect the gut from pathogenic bacteria (mostly by outcompeting other bacteria for nutrients), and stimulate the immune system. Bacteria make up the majority of the dry weight of the feces.
