A child has been scheduled for a cystourethrography. The nurse prepares the child by:
 
  1. Following the order of NPO until after the procedure.
   2. Assessing the child's allergies.
   3. Discussing the IV insertion.
   4. Discussing the placement of a Foley catheter.

A 13-year-old girl is developing breast buds. She feels that her development is behind most of her friends. The nurse discusses changes that are going to occur during the genital stage and what to expect socially.

2. The procedure does not require medication, thus allergies are not a concern at this time.
3. An IV is not required for the procedure.
4. A Foley catheter will need to be placed to drain the urine. The procedure should be discussed with the child so he/she knows what to expect and can ask questions.
