Despite their appearance, the child with osteogenesis imperfecta has normal or above-normal intelligence. The child with osteogenesis imperfecta has weak muscles and decreased muscle tone. Because of compression fractures of the spine, the child appears short.

The nurse should avoid applying talcum powder because it may become sticky or cake on the skin and cause irritation.
