Answer to Question 1

1
Rationale:
1. Acute pain is the diagnosis that will apply to this client. Back pain is experienced during persistent occiput posterior position because the fetal occiput compresses the sacral nerves.
2. Risk for injury would be an appropriate diagnosis if the labor were to start progressing quickly or precipitously.
3. Impaired gas exchange occurs when there is an interruption in umbilical blood, often secondary to compression of the cord.
4. Fluid volume deficit would be an appropriate diagnosis if there were risk of excessive bleeding.

Dogs have been used in studies to detect various cancers in human subjects. They have been trained to sniff breath samples from humans that were collected by having them breathe into special tubes. These people included 55 lung cancer patients, 31 breast cancer patients, and 83 cancer-free patients. The dogs detected 54 of the 55 lung cancer patients as having cancer, detected 28 of the 31 breast cancer patients, and gave only three false-positive results (detecting cancer in people who didn't have it).
