Answer to Question 1

ANS: D
Barrier methods are contraindicated for women with a history of toxic shock syndrome because of the possible recurrence of a potentially life-threatening illness.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
Water-soluble lubricants help prevent breakage and may also increase the partner's comfort. The failure rate for condoms is 14 (2 if used with spermicide). There should be a half inch of empty space in the condom at the end of the penis to collect sperm. Natural skin condoms do not prevent transmission of infection.
