Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
During labor and delivery, genitourinary tissues may become edematous and traumatized, leading to a decreased awareness of the need to void. In addition, the bladder has increased capacity and decreased muscle tone.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: D
A slow heart rate is common during the first postpartum week. It does not indicate a problem. Impending shock is usually accompanied by tachycardia. Dehydration may or may not affect pulse rate.
