This woman's cervix is not favorable for induction, so a cervical ripening agent should be used. Cytotec is one such agent. Betamethasone is used to improve fetal lung maturity. Hydromorphone is a pain medication. Oxytocin would be used to augment labor once the cervix is favorable.

An amniotomy is an invasive procedure that carries the risk of infection. Maternal temperature should be assessed at least every 2 hours afterward.
