For each primary oocyte that undergoes meiosis, only one functional egg is produced; the other cells (termed polar bodies) deteriorate. The graafian follicle is a mature ovarian follicle and does not secrete prolactin. Oogenesis occurs in utero.

Because the clitoris often resembles the urinary meatus, nurses sometimes try to insert a catheter in it instead of the real meatus.
