An umbrella branding approach is when a company uses the same brand name for all of its products. An example is Sony. Sony uses the Sony name on everything from CD players to TVs. Honda uses Honda on everything from cars and motorcycles to lawnmowers.
A house of brands approach consists of using a new brand name for every major product offered by a company. Procter & Gamble does this with its brand names Charmin (toilet paper), Ivory (soap), and Crest (toothpaste).
